Set or change a preferred name How to set or change your preferred first or last name: Your preferred first and last names are how you prefer to be called. They may be different from your legal names. Your preferred first name is also called nickname, and your preferred last name is also called professional last name. The NetID website, RAMweb, the CSU Fort Collins Directory, Microsoft 365 Outlook and Teams, and many other services at CSU allow you to customize how you display your preferred names and identity. Applicable to: CSU System, Fort Collins, Pueblo, Spur students, staff, faculty, associates, retirees, emeritus Prerequisites You must have an active NetID in order to make changes to your record Campus/VPN Connection required for some actions How to change your names in CSU systems Preferred First Name After logging in to the NetID website, select Menu > My Account > Preferred First Name. Update your preferred first name and click Save.CSU Pueblo users must also contact their administrative office to have their preferred name set. Contact Admissions, the Registrar or the Human Resources office. Preferred Last Name (CSU Fort Collins Employees) Update your preferred last name in the Human Resources Portal, CSU Employee Self-Service under Personal Information, Basic Details. (To access this link, you need to be on campus or log in through the CSU GlobalProtect VPN.) Or email Human Resources Information Systems (HR IS) to request a preferred last name. Legal Names Students: Contact the Office of the Registrar. Faculty, Staff and Associates: Contact your hiring/onboarding departmental Human Resources representative. Email Alias Names After making any name change (legal, preferred, or professional) your email alias will not automatically update on its own. After you change your preferred or legal last name through the Registrar or Human Resources, your new last name will appear as an option at Menu > My Account > Email Alias.
