Add Microsoft Teams Link to a Canvas Course (Instructors)
If you are an instructor at CSU Pueblo, are no longer using Zoom for your courses, and need to utilize Teams as an alternative video conferencing platform; this article walks users through how to add a Microsoft Teams meeting link into a Canvas course.
Prerequisites
Add Microsoft Teams Link to a Canvas Course
After creating the Teams meeting link, it's time to post it in your Canvas course. The link can be added to various areas of your course (the Canvas course homepage, a Canvas announcement, linked into your Welcome to the Course module).
These instructions demonstrate how to create a new page in the Welcome to the Course module, and how to add the meeting link to the page.
Create a Web Link and Add the Teams Meeting Link
From the Welcome to the Course module in the Modules tab in the Canvas course:
-
Click the + button in the module header.
- In the Add Item to Welcome to the Course that appears, select Page from the Add drop-down menu.
- In the list of pages that appears, select the [ Create Page ] option to create a new page.
- In Page Name, enter a name for the new page that makes sense for your course, such as Virtual Class Meeting Link.
-
Click Add Item.

Screenshot 2: Select Page -> [ Create Page ] -> Enter Page Name, then click Add Item

This will create a new unpublished page within the module you selected. For students to see the page, don't forget to publish it. You can also move the item around within the module so that it appears in the order you want.
Add the Teams Meeting Link to a Page
Now that the page has been created, it's time to add the meeting link you created in Microsoft Teams or your Outlook calendar to the page.
-
Click the page title in the module to open the page.
-
Click the Edit button at the top of the page to open the Rich Content Editor (RCE).
-
Click into the RCE (the large textbox)
-
Place your cursor in the location where you want to insert your meeting link.
- In the RCE toolbar, click the Insert menu button (then Link -> then External Link) or click the Insert Link icon in the toolbar.
- In the Insert Link box that appears, add the descriptive link Text that students will see on the Canvas page. Be sure to label this something that student will understand.
- In the Link box, paste the shareable link to the meeting you created in Teams or your Outlook calendar.
-
Click the Done button to finish inserting the link into the Rich Content Editor.
-
Add any additional text to the box that might be needed for your students to clarify when and how often they need to use the meeting link.
- When finished adding and editing content in the RCE, click the Save button in the bottom right to save your page.

Adjusting Meeting Options
To make updates to scheduled meetings, including ensuring that meeting recordings do not start until the organizer joins, who can bypass the lobby, who can present during a meeting, and more; take a look at this article from Microsoft about adjusting options for a Teams meeting.
