Troubleshooting Classroom AV Equipment
Purpose: Identify and fix common issues with classroom AV systems when the display, audio, or connections are not working.
Applicable to: Pueblo
Audience: Students, Faculty, Staff, Guests

Prerequisites
Ensure the classroom AV system is powered on via the touch panel.
Make sure your device (laptop, tablet, etc.) is charged and powered on.
Save your presentation or teaching materials to a USB drive, personal laptop, and/or cloud storage (e.g., OneDrive).

Have your CSU credentials (C-number and password) ready to log into the workstation.
Have your cell phone or device ready for Duo two-factor authentication, if prompted.
Bring a laptop charger and any required video adapters (e.g., HDMI, DisplayPort, VGA, USB-C) if connecting an external device.
Important: Classroom cameras only work with the professor workstation computer. They are not compatible with external devices.
1. Black Screen after Log In

Press Ctrl + Alt + Del on your keyboard.
- A menu screen will appear with options like Task Manager, Lock, Sign out, and a Power icon in the bottom-right corner.

Click the Power icon using your mouse.

Select Restart from the menu.
If your mouse is not working:

Press the Tab key repeatedly until the Power icon is highlighted.

Press Enter to open the power menu.
-
Use the Down Arrow key to highlight Restart.
-
Press Enter to begin the Restart.
⚠️ Important: Do not select Shutdown — this will not fix the black screen issue.
Additional troubleshooting
If Ctrl + Alt + Del does not bring up the menu, follow these steps to perform a hard restart:

Press and hold the Power button on your computer until it shuts off.

Wait 5–10 seconds.

Press the Power button again to turn it back on.

2. No Display on Projector or Screen
Verify the projector/display power is on using the touch panel.
Ensure the correct input source is selected (Lectern PC, HDMI, etc.).
Reconnect your device’s cable securely.

3. Touch Panel Unresponsive or System Not Responding

Wake the touch panel:

Check the screen color:

After restart:

4. Problems Logging In to the Classroom PC

Verify your credentials:
-
Check keyboard input:
Ensure the keyboard and mouse are properly connected and functioning.
Make sure Num Lock is on if using the numeric keypad.
Ensure Caps Lock is not interfering with your password entry.

Be patient on first login:

Restart if necessary:
If the PC is frozen or not responding, press Ctrl + Alt + Delete.
If that doesn’t work, restart the PC from the Windows menu. Do not hold the power button unless absolutely necessary.

5. No Sound

Check your device volume:
Windows: Click the speaker icon in the bottom-right taskbar and adjust the slider.
Mac: Click the volume icon in the top-right menu bar and adjust the slider.
Tablet/Phone: Use the physical volume buttons.

Check the content you are playing:
Ensure whatever you are playing (e.g., YouTube video, presentation, media player) has its volume turned up.

Check touch panel volume:
Locate the volume slider or buttons on the right side of the panel.
Increase the volume and ensure Mute is off.
If sound is not working: Select Mute on the touch panel, then select it again to unmute.

Verify audio output:
Reconnect the cable if audio still does not play.
6. Signing in to Microsoft 365 Apps

Open any Microsoft 365 app (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook).
- If an activation window appears:

Click Sign in or create account. (Do not click I have a product key.)

Enter your CSU email address (e.g., firstname.lastname@colostate.edu).
-
Click Next.
-
Enter your CSU NetID password.
- If prompted, complete Duo two-factor authentication.
- The app will activate and open normally.
- A pop-up window may appear asking if you want to automatically sign in to all desktop apps and websites on this device.

Click Yes to allow seamless access across Microsoft 365 apps.
- If no activation window appears:

Click Sign in in the top-right corner of the app window.

Enter your CSU email address and follow the same steps as above.
- To verify you're signed in:

Click your profile icon in the top-right corner.

Confirm your CSU email is listed.
