Project Approval Process
Any requests submitted to the Project Services Office that have a broad-based impact or involve launching new services will be routed for input and guidance from the appropriate IT Governance groups. The chart below defines the project approval process for two project types: strategic and operational.
Applicable to:
CSU Fort Collins, Pueblo, Spur faculty and staff
Key elements of the project management process include:
-
Project requests: Faculty and staff can submit project requests, which are reviewed by the IT Governance Council. Projects undergo an assessment cycle, typically every month.
-
Prioritization: Projects are prioritized using a project scorecard, executive leadership input, and compliance considerations.
-
Review cycle: Once reviewed, projects may be placed in a queue and are activated based on available resources and institutional priorities.
-
Execution and management: Once a project is activated, a timeline is established, and the necessary project management resources are allocated to ensure successful completion.
The Division of IT ensures regular communication with stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle, from request submission to final approval and execution.
Operational Projects
Operational projects typically refer to initiatives undertaken within an organization to manage, improve, or optimize its existing processes, systems, or day-to-day operations. These projects focus on enhancing efficiency, productivity, and overall business function effectiveness.
Strategic Projects
Strategic projects aim to achieve long-term objectives and impact the broader direction of the organization. Unlike operational projects, which focus on maintaining and refining current operations, strategic projects guide the future growth and vision of the organization.
