GlobalProtect for Windows continuously attempts to connect

This document covers troubleshooting an error with the GlobalProtect client for Windows.


Symptoms

Use this article if the GlobalProtect client continuously attempts to connect even after failing, and the PanGPS.log file contains a line similar to the following: "Failed to open file C:\Users\%Username%\AppData\Local\Palo Alto Networks\GlobalProtect\PanPUAC_*.dat".


Resolution

  1. Uninstall GlobalProtect.
  2. Delete the contents of the folder C:\Users\%Username%\AppData\Local\Palo Alto Networks\GlobalProtect\
    1. Remember: The "%Username%" above corresponds to your Windows username.
  3. Install GlobalProtect again from scratch.
  4. Try connecting to GlobalProtect.
