Integrating Macmillan Content to Blackboard Original Courses
The following information provides instructions on locating and activating LTI tools and content from third party publishers like Cengage, Macmillan, McGraw Hill, and Pearson into a Blackboard course using the Original course view.
**Macmillan has updated their Blackboard tool integration to 1.3 LTI Advantage. This has been updated in Blackboard and the Partner Cloud method of linking courses has been retired. Please use these instructions for integrating all Blackboard courses with Macmillan Achieve from Fall 2025 onward.
About Third Party Publishers
Instructors have the option to use third party publishers to add textbook chapters, assignments, quizzes, and more content into their courses digitally. The process for integrating a course with a publisher’s content varies by publisher. Additionally, with the transition from Building Blocks to LTI, REST API, and cloud integrations; it is important to make sure the content is integrated into courses correctly so that instructors and students can access it without difficulty. If an instructor experiences issues with integrating their course to Blackboard, please contact the CSU Pueblo Educational Technologist or submit a support ticket. More specific questions about third party publishers and their content should be directed to the support staff for the selected publisher.
Step 1. Set Up the Macmillan Course
The current Macmillan platform being used in Blackboard is named Achieve. This replaced the Launchpad platform in 2023.
To begin integrating content via Achieve from Macmillan, instructors must first create an account with Macmillan by contacting a sales representative from Macmillan.
Then, the course must be set up in the Macmillan account first before the integration can be connected to a Blackboard course.
When building the course in Macmillan, make sure the following information has been entered before integrating the content with Blackboard.
-
Enter Term Start Date AND Term End Date
-
Select the desired information from the pre-built courses
-
Add due dates and point values to assignments (only assignments with due dates and point values can be integrated into the Blackboard grade center)
Step 2. Integrate the Macmillan Course to Blackboard
After setting up the content in the Macmillan account, the content can be integrated into the Blackboard course by navigating to a content area or folder in which the publisher integration will be created. This could be an existing content area or a folder created specifically for the Macmillan integration, as seen in the picture below.

-
Click the item in the course content menu to open it
-
Hover over the Tools (1) area to open the drop-down menu
- In the drop-down menu, click More Tools (2)
-
Click the Macmillan LTI Advantage Course Tools option (3) from the list of content providers

-
Enter the Link Name that you want for the course, or keep the automated Macmillan LTI Advantage Course Tools title
-
(Optional) Enter Text to describe what students should expect to see when they click the link
-
Click Submit
-
Click the link that is created in your content area to open the Achieve portal
-
Click the Connect with Achieve link to access the course you had previously built in Macmillan and connect it to your Blackboard course

Once the Macmillan content has been associated and synced with the Blackboard course, the content and grade center will be updated according to the course set up from the publisher. If any issues are encountered while attempting to set up or deploy content from the Macmillan site, please contact the integration team at Macmillan.
Copying Macmillan Content
When copying Macmillan content from a prior course to a current course, ensure that you create a copy of the Macmillan course from within the Macmillan account before linking the Macmillan content to the current Blackboard course.
NOTE: Each Macmillan course can only be associated with one Blackboard course. Please copy the Macmillan course to use it with another Blackboard course.
