Installing GlobalProtect for Linux
This article covers installing the GlobalProtect app on Linux devices. The GlobalProtect app only supports CentOS, Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), Ubuntu and Fedora distributions. Other Linux distributions may be able to install and use the GlobalProtect app or a third-party VPN tool, but the DoIT Help Desk cannot provide support for these alternative solutions. Please see the GlobalProtect Compatibility Matrix to ensure your Linux distribution is officially supported by the GlobalProtect app.
To install the GlobalProtect app on a supported Linux distribution and version:
- Download `gp_install.sh` and the appropriate package for your distribution (either DEB or RPM) here.
- In a terminal, run the installation script as root:
- Log out of Linux, then log back in.
- After logging in, you should now see the GlobalProtect icon in your desktop environment's system tray or equivalent. If not, you may be able to find the GlobalProtect app in your desktop environment's application launcher. Otherwise, you can launch the GlobalProtect app via the CLI like so:
- Once you have installed the GlobalProtect app, follow these steps to connect:
- Enter gateway.colostate.edu or pueblogateway.colostate.edu as the Gateway Address and click the Connect button.
- Before the GlobalProtect client can finish connecting, you will need to authenticate with Duo.
- When GlobalProtect says "Connected", you may now use the VPN.
