How to download the Microsoft 365 apps package and access apps on the web

Description: This article provides step-by-step instructions for downloading the Microsoft 365 (M365) apps package and accessing each app on the web.


Prerequisites:

  • A valid Microsoft 365 subscription
  • Internet access

Steps to download the Microsoft 365 apps package

  1. Open your web browser:
    • Launch your preferred web browser (e.g., Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox).
  2. Navigate to the Microsoft 365 portal:
  3. Sign in to your Microsoft account:
    • Enter your NetID email address and password.
    • Click Sign in.
  4. Go to the Install Office page:
    • On the Microsoft 365 home page, click on Install Office in the upper right corner.
    • Select Office 365 apps from the drop down menu.
  5. Download and install the apps:
    • Follow the on-screen instructions to download the installer.
    • Once downloaded, open the installer and follow the prompts to install the Microsoft 365 apps on your device.


Accessing Microsoft 365 apps on the web

  1. Open your web browser:
    • Launch your preferred web browser.
  2. Navigate to the Microsoft 365 portal:
  3. Sign in to your Microsoft account:
    • Enter your Microsoft account email address and password.
    • Click Sign in.
  4. Access individual apps:
    • Outlook: Click on the Outlook icon to access your email.
    • Word: Click on the Word icon to create and edit documents.
    • Excel: Click on the Excel icon to create and edit spreadsheets.
    • PowerPoint: Click on the PowerPoint icon to create and edit presentations.
    • OneNote: Click on the OneNote icon to create and manage notes.
    • Teams: Click on the Teams icon to collaborate with your team.
    • OneDrive: Click on the OneDrive icon to access your cloud storage.


What about CSU owned or department issued devices?

  • If you are a faculty or staff member, you can install this software on up to five personal computers. A different mechanism is in place for CSU-owned computers to be configured with Microsoft Office. Please work with your college or department IT staff to set that up.
