Edit Notification Settings in Blackboard (Instructors)

The following information provides instructions to instructors for using and adjusting Notification Settings in Blackboard Ultra Base Navigation.

Accessing Notification Settings

The notifications an instructor receives from Blackboard can be adjusted and minimized from the Activity Stream tab in Blackboard’s Ultra Base Navigation.

After logging into Blackboard, select the Activity Stream tab from the course menu on the left-hand side of the screen.

In the upper-right-hand corner of the Activity Stream tab will be options to adjust the feed for the stream between showing all activity or only grades and feedback (1). Next to these Filter options is a gear icon (2).

Selecting the gear icon (2) opens the more detailed Notification Settings options.

Stream Notifications

The first list of notifications that can be adjusted are for the Activity Stream itself so that it can be tailored to the needs and wants of the individual instructor.

The Stream Notifications are signified by the globe icon (3).

If there is an arrow next to any of the list options, then the arrow can be clicked to show even more options for notifications that can be displayed in the Activity Stream.

For example, under Blog activity three additional notification types can be turned on or off by selecting the arrow next to the heading and selecting or deselecting the checkboxes for those items (4).

REMEMBER: After making any changes, be sure to select SAVE so that your notifications settings will be retained.

Email Notifications

The second list of notifications that can be adjusted are for Email Notifications, which is represented by the envelope icon (5).

ASK YOURSELF: Do you want to receive an email right away for any new notifications, OR do you want to receive only a summary once a day?

Below the options for email frequency are types of notifications that can be received through email that can be selected or deselected with the checkbox next to each item.

Push Notifications

The third and final list of notifications that can be adjusted are for Push Notifications, which are represented by the bell icon (6).

These notification types are only relevant to users who have the Blackboard mobile app and want to receive notifications from Blackboard on their mobile device for new content and discussions or discussion responses.
